The Vanishing Race:
A Photographic Exhibition

Edward Sheriff Curtis (1865-1952)

Edward Sheriff Curtis Edward Sheriff Curtis devoted 30 years to documenting the "Vanishing Race", taking over 40,000 photographs and publishing the definitive ethnographic study "The North American Indian".

His sensitive portrayals of the glory of the American Indian provide a monumental testimony to Native American Culture.

His subjects included straightforward ethnographic material, romantic scenes from Indian life and stunningly insightful portraiture, which combined with his amazing technical expertise to create an unparalleled body of photographic expression.

This exceptional collection of photographic works by Edward Sheriff Curtis includes two original goldtones, 41 signed platinum prints and signed brown gelatins and 33 large and small format original photogravures from the early 1900s. The majority of these works came directly from the Curtis Estate and many are previously unpublished.
